So none of your posse will do this with you. And you don’t care.
You’re doing it anyway. Alone.
You might feel a little uncertain and nervous, maybe even a little scared.
I’d be scared if I were you, too! Because you’re about to get besieged by 1500 flockers petitioning to adopt you!
Now, to be fair, there are always a handful of people that choose to Pledge the Pink alone. It’s a poignant and emotional weekend, and very personal. So if you are coming by yourself and you kind of want to be left alone to reflect, that’s totally cool. We won’t bother you.
But if you want to karaoke with new friends, carpool from the airport, share accommodations, walk with people doing your pace, or simply want to be smothered in loving tail feathers all weekend long, you’ve come to the right place.
So let’s start by asking the most important question.
What does being on a team really mean?
The simple answer is: whatever you want it to mean!
- Just because you’re on a team doesn’t mean that y’all have to walk/run together. Everyone goes at their own pace.
- You also don’t have to fundraise together. If they are fundraising but you don’t want to, that’s fine too. On the other hand, if you plan on fundraising, you might actually benefit from being on a team. Because if your team raises 5k, yall will get to “Choose Your Charity” and 75% of your fundraising goes to the beneficiary of your choosing.
- If you’re on a team of 5 or more, your packet and swag bag will be placed in a team box at the packet pickup party on Thursday night. You’ll coordinate with your captain on where to meet to get your stuff. If you’re on a small team or a singleton, you’ll pick up your own stuff at a different table. 🙂
You’ve got two options:
- Put yourself up for adoption in our Facebook chat club and have the teams “fight” for you. Some might be a team of 2 that are looking for someone to fill an extra bedroom. Some will want you because you’re from a nearby town and yall can train together. And some might want you because they are competing in a recruiting contest that we might have going on. And they want to win!
- If you can’t find a good fit on the auction block, you can always join our official team of singletons: the Solo Strutters. Originally created by FlockStar Judy Cherry for the Avon 39 walks, Judy has now brought her team of soloists to Pledge the Pink. Its sole purpose is to be a team for those that are participating alone but want the team experience. Her team grew to over 1000 people in the Avon days and we are proud that she’s agreed to pass the torch and allow PTP registrants to join her band of singletons. Many of them have been friends for years, but new FlockStars are joining their team every week so it is a nice mix.
So the moral of this story is two-fold
One, don’t let the fact that none of your slacker friends will do this with you keep YOU from joining us. You’ll have the Best Darn Weekend of Your Life no matter what.
And two, if you want to join a team, there’s no shortage of groups looking for new BFFs. Take your time and sniff out all your options. And know that Solo Strutters will always be there if you don’t gel with the other crazy flockers!
