October 25-28, 2018 – South Carolina

Beaches, Besties & Bling

Join our island-hopping adventure, and experience three finish lines, on three islands, in one fun-filled weekend.

Your Finish Line

Ten miles a day, on three breathtaking islands. Run it, walk it, push a stroller, take a short cut, stop for drinks, and take loads of selfies along the way.

Pledge the Pink is not about beating the next guy. It’s about challenging yourself. It’s about your goals, your training, your finish lines.

And saving lives.

Race Courses as Pretty as You

We take great pride in making sure that each of our 10 mile courses is breathtaking, entertaining, and stocked with snacks, endless high-fives, and signs that’ll make you pee yourself (tho we do have tons of loos)!

Your adoring fans will be encouraging you at every turn, and their golf carts, houses, and dogs will all be decked out to show their undying support.

Is it a Walk or a Run?

It’s a walk! It’s a run! It’s anything you want it to be!

A lot of people stop for selfies, hammock breaks, dolphin sightings, and the occasional umbrella drink. And a lot of people run the whole thing.

And a lot of people do something in between.

You do what makes you happy. Because that makes us happy.

Do it with a Team or Go Stag

If you sign up solo, we guarantee you that you’ll never really be alone! We love introducing you to your new BFFs and connecting people with our ridiculously silly shenanigans (it’s our specialty, actually).

We also love teams, so gather your posse and come up with a ridiculously silly team name. We’ve seen that the more clever the name, the easier it is to recruit more peeps. Go get ’em!

4 parties, 3 finish lines, 4 medals, one cause

Our goal is to give you a one-of-a-kind, first-class, best-weekend-of-your-life, life-changing event. An event that focuses just as much on the extras (dances with Shoe, funny course signs, 10’ beach balls) as we do on nuts and bolts (porta johns, gatorade).

And we like to wrap it in a bow so that you don’t have to worry about anything during our weekend together.

What’s Included:

  • 3 days of racing/walking
  • 3 gorgeous courses
  • 3 after parties
  • 3 full lunches at the finish lines

4 Bling Weekend

Doing a pretty impressive thing, calls for some pretty impressive bling. Pick up a gorgeous new medal for each day you race — plus a 5” honker when you wrap up all 30 miles.

We’ll keep the daily medals under wraps until the race, but we’re proud to unveil our 2018 triple nipple medal. Fancy dangles from the finish line and she can be removed to use as an ornament, key chain, or your own good luck charm!

The Weekend Parties

We kick things off on Thursday night with our sunset Packet Pickup Party where activities and shenanigans abound! Our Newbie Tent is always a blast as all you rookies come together and meet each other. Stick a pin in our FlockStar Map so we know where you’re from, enjoy a waterfront pink carpet photo shoot, and get all your questions answered by our seasoned veterans.

Friday’s after-party includes our big Survivor Celebration. Saturday’s party features our Guinness World Record holding Flocks of Love, and on Sunday we wrap things up with a Big Beach Bash. Everyday, a delicious lunch is free for all registrants, and adult beverages abound (cash bars). As do massages 🙂

Spooky Fancy Theme!

We’re loco for silly costumes, wacky clothing, and pink prima donnas.

And with our big event moved to Halloween(ish) this year, it’s like a match made in heaven!

The sky’s the limit with this one so now’s your chance to dust off your Princess Leia earmuffs and Madonna wardrobe, or go totally classic as a clown, witch, or ghost.

Or, of course, you can go au natural and be pretty in pink.

Costumes aren’t required so don’t feel pressured into looking like an idiot.

But if childish ridiculousness is your middle name, you’ll be in good company.

Ready, set, flaminGO!

Training

You so got this!

We have three different training schedules to get you in the best shape of your life! With our 12, 8, and 6 week plans, we’ve got you covered no matter your fitness level or your race weekend goals. Schedules will be released in early April!

And you can log all your training miles in our new FlockStar Tracker. It’s a great motivator and you can challenge yourself (and other feathered friends) to reach new milestones.

Meet our Flock

Our private Facebook group is a year-round playground for us to meet new friends from around the globe. We’re a small, intimate group that supports and encourages each other in a safe haven.

Training tips, sneaker sales, and hotel suggestions are plentiful, as are postings for event roommates, carpooling pals, and accountability buddies. Find peeps near you and hook up for weekly or monthly training walks/runs (or make friends with our peeps in Hawaii and Florida and go train at their place this winter)!

Our Islands

Paradise is our Playground

Fripp Island

Our epic weekend starts with our maiden voyage to Fripp Island, a community known for its private beaches, spectacular golf courses, large (very large!) alligators, and the world’s friendliest deer.

They (the deer, not the gators) will be walking right by your side as we meander through the most beautiful wildlife sanctuary in South Carolina.

Fripp is normally the most laid-back island in the state… except this weekend!

This course is simply stunning and include beaches, boardwalks, the Ocean Point golf course, and stellar views of Hunting Island State Park, Pritchard Island, and St Phillips Island (which you can buy from Ted Turner for just $5 million).

Between the friendly wildlife, scavenger hunts, decorating contests, and the Fripp Fire Department hose soaking shenanigans, we expect this to be the slowest “race” in history! Take your time and relish every moment.

Bluffton & Pine Island

Welcome to the most quirky, eccentric, beautiful, and gracious towns in the country. Old Town Bluffton is filled with gorgeous antebellum homes, historic churches, moss-draped Oak canopies, and a uniquely fabulous weird vibe. You’ll soon understand why Bluffton is its own state of mind!

Our journey follows the beautiful May River, transporting you from the ridiculous charm of Old Town to the dirt roads and whimsical community of Alljoy Landing (where fishing, drinking, and golf cart racing is a way of life). We’ll also walk the causeway to little-known Pine Island (and Little Pine Island) for some of the most stunning views of Hilton Head, the May River, and our gorgeous marshlands.

You’ll be welcomed into many of our quirky bars, restaurants, and art galleries as we return to Old Town and cross the finish line back in the park. Where 2000 flamingos and a rockin waterfront post-race party await!

Hilton Head Island

This will be our 7th year in a row on the island that is (so appropriately) shaped liked a sneaker. It’s like it was made just for us!

Starting at Chaplin Park, our first mile is a meandering pathway as we approach Singleton Beach. The expansive sunrise views over the ocean are sure to be spectacular.

We’ll head south on the hard-packed sands to Coligny Beach where we will have a designated area for you to write “messages in the sand”. This is sure to be a poignant stop for many.

After exiting the beach, our course continues down the Island’s most beautiful (and least known) oceanfront road. The tree canopy and beach dunes will simply take your breath away. The last mile is back on the beach where the magnificent finish line and after-party (and after-after party!) will wrap up our weekend together.

More good news:

No fundraising needed

There’s no real time limit (but we ask that you shoot for 4 hours)

Kids under 12 and under are just $100

You can win some sweet prizes (like Spartina 449, Kendra Scott, and SparkleSkirts kind of awesome!)

Accommodations and airfares are cheaper in late October so you’ll save big bucks if you’re coming from out of town

Oh, and the weather is pretty doggone near perfect this time of year (75 and no humidity!)

Did we mention the whole life-saving thing?

Yeah, you register. We save lives. Pretty nice, huh?

Tips

Waitlist.  As in, get on it now! We sold out super early this year, but we are working hard to create additional spots. We will transfer them to people on our Waitlist in the order that they signed up. So do it now.

Short on cash? Consider asking your employer or business owners that you know to sponsor your registration costs. They may even pitch in to cover some of your expenses. Put their name/logo on the back of your shirt as a way to thank them!

Bunk up! Use our Facebook group to meet your new besties and yall can go in on a beach house or condo together. It’ll save you money and it’s tons more fun. The private pools and hot tubs sure make for a great wine-sipping recovery, too!

Oh, and yall can carpool to/from our daily start lines together too (and the spa!)

Tips

Register soon so you can to get the best pricing. Our full price fees are $350.

Don’t procrastinate: we’re already two-thirds of the way SOLD OUT and we can only guarantee spots if you sign up before Dec 31, 2017.

Short on cash? Get your friends and family to “sponsor” your registration costs. They can’t write it off, but most people like helping friends do something so important. Once you have enough money, register with a credit/debit card!

At a Glance

All of our islands are accessible by vehicle this year so there’s no worry about missing the boat!

THU

Come meet your new besties at Packet Pickup Party between 4-8pm at Shelter Cove Waterfront Park on Hilton Head (39 Shelter Cove Lane). Games, prizes, picture stations, and the Newbie Tent will be set up on the water, and DJ Alan will lead us in shenanigans all night long. There are tons of restaurants 50 feet away so yall can have a bite to eat and then grab a cold beverage and watch the sunset with us in the park. NOTE: if you’re not able to collect your packet Thursday, a friend can pick it up on your behalf OR we’ll have it waiting for you at the Fripp start line. If you are staying at Fripp Thursday evening, we will have your packets for you there (we will coordinate this in the fall). NOTE #2: team packets are boxed together and will be given to ONE team member for distribution.

FRI

Luxury charter buses will take everyone to Fripp Island on Friday so you can snooze on the drive to paradise and party on the way back to Hilton Head. Buses will leave from Honey Horn (Coastal Discovery Museum) at 7:30am and we will play fun car games (including Mad Libs!) on the way to Fripp.  Our poolside & beachfront after-party and Survivor Celebration will be swinging until 2pm and you can hop on any of our return buses starting at 12:30. **For those that are driving into town that morning and wish to meet us on Fripp, gate passes and parking near the start line are available.

Our Saturday adventure starts/finishes on the banks of the May River in historic Old Town Bluffton. It is just a 15-20 minute drive from Hilton Head, so we’ll meet everyone at Oyster Factory Park for our 8am start. Park for free virtually anywhere in Bluffton; official event parking is at Mt Zion Church and MC Riley Elementary School, where we will have shuttle buses running from the school to/from the start line. Our waterfront after-party will rock on until 2pm and you can decorate your Flocks of Love flamingos before and after the race.

SUN

Sunday’s 7am sunrise start line is on Hilton Head Island at Chaplin Park (Singleton Beach Road). Our beach finish line is in Palmetto Dunes Resort and our fabulous after-party will be steps away at the Omni’s beachfront pavilion. And we hope that many of you will stick around for our beach bash (an unofficial beach bash wrap party) afterwards. Our buses will shuttle you back to your cars at Chaplin Park whenever you’re ready to say goodbye (sniff).

Accommodations

Most people stay on Hilton Head Island where the hotel, house rental, and condo options are endless (as are the restaurants and attractions). Anywhere in Palmetto Dunes, Shelter Cove, or Singleton Beach area would be close to the action… but really anywhere on Hilton Head is fine, as you are never more than 10 minutes from anywhere.

Bluffton, which is Hilton Head’s mainland, is also a great option, especially for those on a budget.

The other option you might want to consider is staying at Fripp Island Resort on Thursday night, and then do HHI for Friday and Saturday nights.

Fripp has everything from studios to mansions, and they are giving us a fabulous discount!

  • This option makes a lot of sense for those of you driving to town, especially if you’re coming from I-26 or I-95 south
  • Staying at Fripp Thursday night is generally cheaper than a night at HHI
  • We will have a happy hour and (optional) dinner for those of you that choose to stay at Fripp Thursday night (wait until you see the sunset from our bar)!
  • For those of you staying at Fripp, we will bring your race packets to happy hour on Thursday night so you have everything you need for Friday (we will coordinate this closer to the event so we know what packets to bring)
  • Oh, and Fripp will give overnight guests a free golf cart!

Our Hilton Head Sponsors are also offering some sweet deals for our flock:

The Omni Oceanfront Resort in Palmetto Dunes is our Sunday host sponsor so staying here would be super convenient (and they are the closest hotel to our Thursday Packet Pickup Party). They have blocks of rooms for us ranging in price from $179-$219/night for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, and a sweet $99 rate for Sunday night. Call the resort directly and ask for the Pledge the Pink rates 843-842-8000.
Vacation Homes of Hilton Head has gorgeous oceanfront homes that accommodate up to 24 people, oftentimes making their swanky houses more affordable than hotels because the costs are divided amongst a big group. Not to mention that you’ll have a kitchen and possibly other amenities like a private pool and hot tub (great for post-race recovery), private bedrooms/baths, dedicated parking, and lots of elbow room.

They’ll give you 10% off any 3 night bookings and 15% off if you book 4-7 nights (just another reason to stay over Sunday night and enjoy our beach party)! They’ll also give yall a 1pm checkout which is fab. You need to call them directly to get the discounted reservations 843-715-2208.

Talk to your fellow flockers in our Facebook group and see where everyone is staying and who might have space available for new friends! It’ll make your weekend cheaper and tons more fun!

Our Courses

Welcome to our Three Island Tour

We take great pride in making sure that each of our 10 mile courses is breathtaking, entertaining, and stocked with snacks, endless high-fives, and signs that’ll make you pee yourself (tho we do have tons of loos)!

Your adoring fans will be encouraging you at every turn, and their golf carts, houses, and dogs will all be decked out to show their undying support.

Maps of our courses are available here.

Course Amenities & Things to Know

Pit Stops

We have plenty of pit stop stations along the route each day with water, sports drink, and snacks. Usually these are spaced every two miles. We’ve got cups for everyone, but if you are used to carrying your own bottle or wear a “race belt”, you can refill at these stations, too.

Loos

Don’t worry we have restrooms along the courses, too! A nice mix of real bathrooms and tons of porta-johns will be available. We try to space them every two to three miles, depending on the terrain and environmental sensitivity of our courses (beaches, wetlands).

Bag Drops

You race bib has a tear-off that you can attach to your complimentary swag bag. Stuff your bag with keys, a clean shirt, some flops, and your favorite pink koozy. Leave it with us at the start line each day and you can pick it up when you cross the finish line. Boogy in comfort!

Time Limits

Our courses are officially open for 4 hours so take your time (and stop for all the wildlife selfies you want)! We do have friendly “sweepers” on each course so if at any time you feel like you need a ride to the finish line, we can scoot you back via golf cart. And swaddle you with bling.

Shortcuts

What happens if you’re injured, sick, didn’t train, or just want to hurry to the after-parties? No worries, we’ve got several short cuts available each day. Because let’s face it, the miles aren’t nearly as important as the the memories (and yeah, you’ll still get your medals).

First Aid

Bandaids, bug spray, sunscreen… we’ve got it.. EMS is also on site every day. Listen to your body: if you feel dizzy, weak, nauseous, overheated, or exhausted- tell the people around you and then sit your butt down in the shade. We’ll get EMS to come check you out.

Event Photos

Dozens of photographers will be capturing our festivities all weekend long… we’re talking thousands of top notch, high resolution Kodak moments!

If you purchase our Picture Pack, we will give you a “keep the camera glued on me all weekend” button and our pros will do just that. $20 gets you access to ALL of our pictures and you can print/download to your heart’s content. Best deal ever.

Didn’t buy Picture Pack when you registered? Edit your registration right now and add it! Check out our “how to” video here

Weather

If it is pouring rain, we are racing.
If it is snowing, we are racing.
If it is hot, we are racing.
If it is cold, we are racing.
If the sky is full of locusts or love bugs, we are racing.

Bottom line, only an act of God or a national/state emergency would force us to cancel the event. You’ve been training and preparing for months, and we’ve been working our butts off for a year and a half. Aint no way we’re going to let anything keep us down!

Our Mission

We Pledge to create a premiere event, bringing people from across the country to our four-day walk/run celebration. We Pledge to support each other and embrace all fitness levels, providing a safe environment for everyone to give their best. We Pledge to provide non-bureaucratic funding for breast cancer screening, treatment, and research. We Pledge to crush goals, laugh uncontrollably, and celebrate survivorship. We Pledge to give you the Best Weekend of Your Life.
