“Breast cancer race” is just the tip of the iceberg.

Our event is unlike anything you’ve ever done. It is uniquely fabulous.

We hope this “FAQ for Newbies” helps explain how the weekend works, why it is so awesome, and what you can look forward to.

Race Courses as Pretty as You

We take great pride in making sure that each of our 10 mile courses is breathtaking, entertaining, and stocked with snacks, endless high-fives, and signs that’ll make you pee yourself (tho we do have tons of loos)! Your adoring fans will be encouraging you at every turn, and their golf carts, houses, and dogs will all be decked out to show their undying support.

Take a Short Cut

Injured, sick, didn’t train, or just want to hurry to the after-parties? No worries, we’ve got various short cuts available each day. Because let’s face it, the miles are nearly as important as the the memories.

Is it a Walk or a Run?

It’s a walk! It’s a run! It’s anything you want it to be! Your race, your pace. Most people stop for selfies, hammock breaks, dolphin sightings, and the occasional umbrella drink. And a lot of people run the whole thing. And a lot of people do something in between. You do what makes you happy. Because that makes us happy.

Do it with a Team or Go Stag

Register by yourself or create a team. If you sign up solo, we guarantee you that you’ll never walk/run alone. That’s kind of a mantra of ours and we have lots of games to make sure that everyone meets everyone. And yeah, if you register by yourself and then get adopted by a team in our chat club (and boy do they fight over newbies!) then we can add you to their group.

Meet our Flock

Our private Facebook group is a year-round playground for us to meet new friends from around the globe. We’re a small, intimate group that supports and encourages each other in a safe haven. Training tips, sneaker sales, and hotel suggestions are plentiful, as are postings for event roommates, carpooling pals, and accountability buddies. Find peeps near you and hook up for weekly or monthly training walks/runs (or make friends with our peeps in Hawaii and Florida and go train at their place this winter)!

Where to Stay

No matter where you stay, paradise is our playground. Most people stay in the middle of the action on Hilton Head Island where the hotel, house rental, and condo options are endless (as are the restaurants and attractions).

The Omni in Palmetto Dunes is our Sunday host sponsor so staying here would be super convenient (and they are the closest hotel to our Thursday Packet Pickup Party). Anywhere in Palmetto Dunes, Shelter Cove, or Singleton Beach area would be close to the action… but really anywhere on Hilton Head is fine, as you are never more than 10 minutes from anywhere!

Or save a few bucks and stay on the mainland in Bluffton (and discover why the town proudly proclaims itself “a state of mind”). Driving/carpooling to the daily start lines is a breeze, and a hop, skip and a jump away no matter where you lay your head.

Getting Around

We can drive to all our start lines this year so no stressing about missing a ferry!

Our charter buses will take everyone to our Friday destination (a NEW ISLAND!) so you can snooze on the drive to paradise and party on the way back to Hilton Head. Buses will likely leave around 7:30am from Honey Horn (Coastal Discovery Museum).

Our Saturday course is just a 20 minute drive from Hilton Head, so we’ll meet everyone at the start line (location to be announced in Jan- yall are gonna love it!).

Sunday’s 7am start line is on HHI at Shelter Cove (same place as our Packet Pickup Party). The finish line and after-party are on the beach at the Omni in Palmetto Dunes, and our buses will shuttle you back to your cars when you’re ready to say goodbye. Sniff.

Training

We offer three different training calendars, depending on your fitness levels and goals (12, 8, and 6 week plans). Registrants also get 10-minute cross-training workout videos (no impact!) and we keep our flock moving year-round with fun and motivating challenges.

Our new FlockStar Tracker (live in January) is super cool! You can upload and track all your training miles and daily activity to your own private page. It is a great motivator and you can challenge yourself (and other feathered friends) to reach new milestones.

The Weekend Parties

We kick things off on Thursday night with our sunset Packet Pickup Party where activities and shenanigans abound! Our Newbie Tent is always a blast as all you rookies come together and meet each other. Stick a pin in our FlockStar Map so we know where you’re from, enjoy a waterfront pink carpet photo shoot, and get all your questions answered by our seasoned veterans.

Friday’s after-party includes our big Survivor Celebration. Saturday’s party features our Guinness World Record holding Flocks of Love, and on Sunday we wrap things up with a big beach bash. A delicious lunch is free for all registrants, and adult beverages abound (cash bars). As do massages.

4 Bling Weekend

Doing a pretty impressive thing, calls for some pretty impressive bling. Pick up a gorgeous new medal for each day you race—plus a 5” bit of bling when you wrap up all 30 miles. We unveil them in the spring, but trust us, they’re big, bold, and beautiful, baby!

More good news:

No fundraising needed

There’s no real time limit (but we ask that you shoot for 4 hours)

Kids under 12 and under are just $100

You can win some sweet prizes (like Spartina 449, Kendra Scott, and SparkleSkirts kind of awesome!)

Accommodations and airfares are cheaper in late October so you’ll save big bucks if you’re coming from out of town

Oh, and the weather is pretty doggone near perfect this time of year (75 and no humidity!)

Did we mention the whole life-saving thing? Yeah, you register. We save lives. Pretty nice, huh?

Don’t procrastinate: we’re already two-thirds of the way SOLD OUT and we can only guarantee spots if you sign up before Dec 31, 2017.

Short on cash? Get your friends and family to “sponsor” your registration costs. They can’t write it off, but most people like helping friends do something so important. Once you have enough money, register with a credit/debit card!

Budgeting for Your Weekend

About 75% of our registrants come from out of town (48 states and 14 countries in 2017!) so yall will have travel expenses and accommodation costs. Use our Facebook group to meet your new besties and save money by carpooling down here with folks in your area.

And yall can go in on a beach house or condo and save even more money– splitting up a bigger place that sleeps several people is much cheaper AND you can have breakfast and dinner at home vs going out to eat.

Our previous out-of-town registrants say that $300-500 pretty much covers your weekend expenses, if you buddy up.

Not too shabby for a four-day weekend in paradise!
